The JCP had unanimously recommended the promotion of Justice Siddiqui as the Chief Justice of the SHC to fill the seat left vacant by the elevation of Justice Aqeel Ahmad Abbasi to the Supreme Court.

The post of Chief Justice of the LHC fell vacant after the appointment of Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan to the Supreme Court on 7 June, after which Justice Shujaat Ali Khan was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the LHC.

Justice Neelam stood third in the seniority list of LHC judges. During the June 7 meeting, the JCP decided to consider his nomination for the office of Chief Justice of the LHC.

Sources said the commission thoroughly evaluated the credentials of all the judges under consideration, and the feedback from almost all the member judges of the JCP was in favor of Justice Neelam.

Asked about the fate of the two senior judges who were bypassed for the post, the source said the decision was up to them, but historically, judges who have been removed have has chosen to continue serving as a judge.

The source said that this scene had happened earlier twice in Peshawar High Court and once in Islamabad High Court.

Born on November 12, 1966, Justice Neelam obtained her LLB degree from Panjab University in 1995 and was admitted as an advocate in 1996. Later she joined the Supreme Court as a lawyer in 2008 and LHC in 2013. .
