The President of Azerbaijan arrived in Islamabad on a 2 day

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev arrived in Islamabad on Thursday on a two-day official visit from July 11 to 12 at the invitation of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

As President Aliyev disembarked from his special plane at Nur Khan Airbase, he was received by Prime Minister Shahbaz along with his cabinet members, including Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Information Minister Ataullah Tarar.

The dignitary’s arrival was ushered in against the backdrop of a 21-gun salute and two children in traditional dress presented him with bouquets.

During the visit, President Aliyev will meet Prime Minister Shahbaz and President Asif Ali Zardari.

The two sides will hold extensive discussions on areas of mutual interest to further strengthen bilateral cooperation. Several agreements are expected to be signed during the visit.

Azhar’s foreign minister visited Pakistan in May and held delegation-level talks in which Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said the two sides were taking measures to increase bilateral investment, especially in the energy sector.

Dar – also the Deputy Prime Minister – had expressed Pakistan’s full support to Azerbaijan during its presidency of the COP29 climate summit.

In a joint press conference on the same day, the foreign ministers of the two countries expressed their commitment to further strengthen the bilateral strategic relationship.

Meanwhile, in a meeting with FM Beyramov, Prime Minister Shahbaz emphasized the need to further strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields.

Azhar’s foreign minister also met Army Chief General Asim Munir.
