Galaxy S24 Ultras camera version may be downgraded

According to the latest clues, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra may suffer a surprising camera quality drop.

Resident oozer Revegnus, X (formerly Twitter) recently announced what they claim are the latest camera features of the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The most notable aspect of this list of specifications is the periscope telephoto camera. Although a huge increase in resolution has been achieved to 50 MP (from 10 MP on the Galaxy S23 Ultra), only 5x zoom is achievable (compared to 10x on the S23 Ultra).

It looks like Samsung will take advantage of these extra pixels to create a hybrid zoom effect, combining optical and virtual techniques to achieve similar extended zooms. Time will tell whether this will be as effective as the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s pure optical approach.

One of the main reasons why the Galaxy S23 Ultra remains our top pick for high-end smartphones until 2023 is that none of its rivals have been able to do anything for it when it comes to zoom capabilities. Samsung probably knows what it’s doing here, but there’s definitely room for concern if you’re a fan of the company’s work.

Elsewhere, the post confirms that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will have a 200MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, a 10MP 3x telephoto and a 12MP front camera.

We expect Samsung to officially announce the Galaxy S24 series in mid-January. Watch this space for more as we hear.
