He said the French company was experiencing financial difficulties and asked the government to pay the subsidiary.
Minister said the delay “worries” him
Rijiju said the delay worried him a lot as the company had exceeded its timeline. “But I think we’ll figure it out soon,” he said, adding that the government “wants to take a very legally correct stance.”
“We are ready to give the money because we want the machine immediately. The only problem is that the amount is not small. So if we pay now, who will save the company if it goes bankrupt or something happens,” the minister said.
Rijiju also added that the government has taken some steps to expedite the delivery of the supercomputer but did not give details. “But I hope that the French government will also intervene because we have a good understanding and a very good relationship with the French government.
“Since it is a high-cost piece of equipment, we want to ensure that the process takes place properly and smoothly,” he said.
“From the outside, everything is ready. The problem is only with the parent company. They want us to pay their subsidiaries. We will only pay the company with which we have signed a memorandum of understanding,” Rijiju said.
Based on Eviden’s BullSequana XH2000, the supercomputing system is said to be capable of up to 21.3 petaflops of combined power.
Supercomputer at IITM
The supercomputer at Pune-based IITM will provide 13 petaflops of computing power for atmospheric and climate research. According to the PTI report, AMD will integrate 3,000 CPU nodes using EPYC 7643 processors and 26 GPU nodes through NVIDIA A100 Tensor Core GPUs. The system will leverage the NVIDIA Quantum InfiniBand networking platform with In-Network Computing, 3PB all-flash and 29PB disk-based DDN EXAScaler ES400NVX2 storage, and Micron high-end memory.
The existing computing facility at NCMRWF is 2.8 petaflops and 4 petaflops at IITM respectively.
