Elon Musk‘s social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), prohibited over 5 lakh accounts in India. Reuters reported that these accounts were banned for violating various policies set by social media platforms and that these accounts were banned between January 26 and February 25.
Total X accounts banned in February
According to the report, the social media platform banned 5,06,173 accounts for promoting child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity. In addition, the platform suspended 1,982 accounts for promoting terrorism.
Combining both, X banned a total of 5,08,155 accounts in India during the said period. Additionally, the platform received around 14,421 complaints from Indian users through its grievance redressal mechanisms. Additionally, around 41 requests were made to suspend accounts.
The company said in its statement: “After reviewing the details of the situation, we have lifted 1 of these accounts from suspension. The remaining reported accounts continue to be suspended.”
“This reporting period we received 71 requests regarding general questions about accounts,” he added.
X banning accounts that violate policy is not a new practice. The platform banned around 2,31,215 accounts in India between December 26 and January 25. During the same period, the company banned 1,945 accounts for promoting terrorism on its platform.
Tips to avoid account X getting banned
To prevent X from closing your account, avoid violating the policies set by the platform. Prevent posts containing child sexual abuse and non-consensual nudity.
